CAMELOT innovation initiative for sustainable value chains with Engelhorn, University of Mannheim and the SAP Innovation Center Network advances despite Corona
Mannheim, 12/08/2020 – “GreenMind² in E-Commerce” by Engelhorn, the CAMELOT Consulting Group, the University of Mannheim and the SAP Innovation Center Network, has reached an important milestone as a co-innovation initiative with the successful completion of the pilot project “GreenShopping2“. The aim of the project was to identify innovative solutions that can sustainably reduce the return rate in e-commerce and promote “green” consumer behavior – a topic that is particularly relevant in view of the current corona-induced increase in online orders.
“As a family-owned business, it was important to us to continue the co-innovation initiative for sustainable value chains launched last year in Covid-19 times. And the results prove us right. It is exciting to see how smart applications and concepts not only effectively prevent returns in online retailing, but also motivate consumers to adopt more sustainable shopping behavior,” comments entrepreneur Simon Engelhorn.
The pilot project GreenShopping2, which was supported by the CAMELOT Consulting Group, is based on the understanding that over 70% of returns in e-commerce are related to the personal preferences of consumers such as style, color, or size. With the help of a structured A/B test framework, various applications and measures were tested for Engelhorn regarding the effective avoidance of returns. In addition, comprehensive analyses of the return rates per product group and the impact on CO2 emissions were provided in real time leveraging SAP Analytics Cloud and CAMELOT’s data science expertise.
According to the proof-of-value results, the most effective way for Engelhorn to avoid returns and generate revenue is to use applications that help customers to specify their needs precisely in conjunction with a dedicated communication strategy, such as chatbots or information campaigns. “The GreenShopping2 project has clearly shown how much can be achieved with clever ideas and digital innovations. I am very pleased that the co-innovation partnership between Engelhorn, University of Mannheim, SAP Innovation Center Network, and CAMELOT continues to deliver results”, comments Dr. Josef Packowski, CEO of CAMELOT Consulting Group.
GreenMind2 for sustainable value chains
The co-innovation initiative “GreenMind2 in E-Commerce” was launched in 2019 by the CAMELOT Consulting Group, Engelhorn, the Chair of Business Sustainability at the University of Mannheim and the SAP Innovation Center Network. The aim of the initiative is to use digital innovation to make value chains in (e-) commerce sustainable and to support “green” consumer behavior. Concepts and digital solutions are provided by CAMELOT’s competence center “GreenMind2“. With new ideas and digital innovations, GreenMind2 aims to facilitate and accelerate sustainable decision-making and action on both the corporate and consumer side, thus making a positive contribution to the environment and society. GreenMind2 offers solutions in the areas of “Green Intelligence”, “Green Strategy”, and “Green Solutions”.
