SAP Master Data Management
With its SAP MDM system, SAP provides a versatile master data solution. In use since 2004, SAP MDM today includes various preconfigured scenarios for master data processes. These SAP MDM Quick Starters are available for example for materials and supplier management. Thanks to a generic and flexible data model, SAP MDM can basically be used for all master data objects from SAP and non-SAP system landscapes.
SAP MDM uses additional SAP components such as SAP Business Process Management (SAP BPM) for flexible, system-wide workflows and, in this way, permits collaborative master data management across all corporate divisions. What’s more, simple validations can be performed directly in SAP MDM. More complex calculations of field values and maintenance screens, address and geodata, etc. are executed by SAP BusinessObjects Data Services.
SAP Business Rules Management is also integrated into SAP MDM, where it is used as a tool for flexible rule definitions, which can be maintained by department employees with no programming skills.
If your company works with different ERP and legacy systems resulting in inconsistencies and considerable expense for data management, maintenance and reporting, SAP MDM could be the perfect solution for you.
For the implementation of a master data management system we follow a three-step best practice approach:
1. Consolidation of data
- Identification of data
- Junction and adjustment of data within a system
2. Alignment of data
- Redistribution of consolidated data into the source system
- Audit of data consistency
3. Central data administration
- Installation of central administration tools in order to continually approve data quality
- Data distribution of new and revised data to the connected systems
SAP MDM is installed gradually on your existing systems. This helps to minimize system failure. Up-to-date product and business partner data optimize the processes within the company. Thanks to the consistent data management it is also possible to reduce the costs for data administration, distribution and correction. System-wide process analyses are simplified through consistent data and evaluations and reports become more accurate. Data inconsistencies are eliminated, which in turn leads to an optimization of both, internal and external communication with business partners.
